June 21 : Our Day in the Lough Erne Golf Resort

Today we are staying at the Lough Erne Golf Resort. This resort was a host to a G8 conference n 2013. The golf course was designed by Nick Faldo. It looks absolutely amazing and I wish I could play a round here.

Our room is huge and has some interesting features. The toilet is flushed by a water tank which is located above the bowl. The water is released by pulling on a chain. Also, there is a large soaker tub, which Marg loves.  We have a wonderful chandelier in our room.

During our trip from Donegal, we stopped at an ancient burial site in Creevycreek Court. What makes this pile of rocks interesting, is that the setup of the site is replicated through out Ireland.

Next, we stopped at Mullaghmore. This is the town where Earl Louis Mountbatten was murdered by the IRA. Earl Mountbatten was the uncle of the late Prince Philip and was a mentor to Prince Charles. The family castle is still the official residence for his family.

After arriving at the resort, we took a cruise down Lough Erne to Devenish Island where the ruins of sixth century monastery still stand.
