Oh my God, we're dropping like flies. My cold is starting to feel better but Marg is concerned that it has moved to my chest. Trudy is also down for day with a cold. Coleen has had an allergic reaction to the hand soap and was very sick. One other lady has an Urinary Tract Infection and is not with us for the day.
Everything you have heard about Irish roads is true. They have a modern highway system that is the equal to any Canadian four lane highway, but their back country roads are a thrill a minute. Some of these country lanes we have been on are just wide enough for our tour bus and a small car. When the bus is going down these roads, I do not think that there is more than the width of a sheet of paper between the bus and the roadside hedges. I also think that it is impossible to find a straight stretch of road that is longer than a couple hundred metres.
The day started of with a trip along the Wild Atlantic Way
to the Slieve League Cliffs. These are the highest coastal cliffs in Europe. It
was an amazing view of the Atlantic Ocean as the weather was excellent. Our host guide was a local fisherman, who treated us to some Irish tunes.
Along the way we went through a beautiful valley with lush green pastures up both sides of the valley. The road through the valley was very narrow and our driver, Dave, has proven again to be a road wizard.
Later in the afternoon we went to small historical village of Glencolmcille, that was made up of cottages restored from the last three centuries. I loved the thatched roofs. I just could not imagine putting on a new roof every four years. Liam Neeson had just finished shooting a film there.
